Dunkin Donuts recently moved into Salt Lake City, to a decent amount of hype and excitement. Being from the midwest / east coast, I grew up on Dunkin (well mostly Krispy Kreme actually).
Dunkin’s donuts are nothing special in my opinion, but their coffee is wildly popular with many people in the east and midwest. I never really found it to be anything great – not bad but not something I would go out of my way to buy. Although I drink coffee pretty regularly these days, I’m not too particular about what kind of coffee I drink.
Despite the hype that Dunkin seemed to get with some in the area, I read many forum posts from locals that didn’t really give two shits about Dunkin… and they all mentioned the same reason: Banbury Cross Donuts. This morning I actually woke up craving something sweet so I decided to ride my bike across town and check out Banbury. The donut actually lived up to the online buildup. I tried the chocolate bar, which is just a long rectangular donut, covered in chocolate frosting. I was expecting some creme in the middle, but it really didn’t need it. The donut was soft, moist, and delicious… much better than a chain store donut. Sorry Dunkin.
If you are a donut lover living in SLC and haven’t checked out Banbury Cross, you need to do so asap.
